On May 1, 2009, Twentynine Palms added a new sculpture as part of its Art in Public Places program.
It was designed by Chuck Caplinger and built by Maurice “Moe” Pegorelli of Twentynine Palms. The 7-1/2-foot tall “29!” sculpture is installed at the base of Donnell Hill at Bullion Avenue and 29 Palms Hwy, and is designed to be a gateway statement to greet motorists entering the downtown area.
We recently took advantage of this cool sculpture to take some photos of the kids.
They had a great time doing this photo shoot and they all loved climbing up on the 29! Some individual pictures:
Then I took a bunch of closeups and picked some favorites to use for our Christmas card (Kayla was visiting her grandparents for December).
I only wish we had gone later in the day when the sun would have been lighting up that 29! We’ll do them again sometime. I think it’s a neat place to take pictures if you’re from Twentynine Palms!
Awesome pictures! These are great! What an interesting sculpture!
