Yummy Iced Coffee and the Winners! August 31, 2008

The mysterious photo was coffee being cold-brewed!

Some of the guesses were really funny. Tobacco??? What kind of lady do you think I am?

And Kombucha? I didn’t even know what that was. I do now!

: a gelatinous mass of symbiotic bacteria (asAcetobacter xylinum) and yeasts (as of the genera Brettanomyces and Saccharomyces) grown to produce a fermented beverage held to confer health benefits; also : thebeverage prepared by fermenting kombucha with black tea and sugar

And thanks to The Pioneer Woman I have this nifty random integer chooser!

There were 28 comments, and I told it to choose 2 numbers. And the winners are…..

Comment 2 and Comment 4!

Congratulations Rachel and Mary! Please email me your address ( and I will send you some of my favorite coffee – Dunkin’ Donuts!!

Smitten Kitchen has some wonderful recipes and I recently read her post on Cold-Brewed Iced Coffee. I just had to try it!

First we assembled the ingredients.

That was easy!

Then we added 1/3 cup coffee and poured in 1 1/2 cups water. Stir it up!

Then cover and let sit for at least 12 hours. The first night I just let it sit. The second time I stirred it up a few extra times. Much better the second time!

I filled my cup with ice, poured in a bunch of french vanilla creamer, and added the coffee. Oh yummy goodness!!!!!

Read the comments from Smitten Kitchen’s post. There are some good tips in there! I especially loved this one:

They make this at the coffee shop I used to work at, and it is so wonderful. However, I hadn’t considered, until I read your post, that I DON’T need a bucket with a filter at the bottom, like they use. Brilliant deduction!
They make this drink called a buzzer, with Toddy (cold brewed coffee).
1/3 toddy
1/3 whole milk
1/3 half & half
three squirts chocolate syrup
two squirts vanilla syrup

Stir well. Proceed to explode.

I can’t wait to try it!!!

Just love your foodie blog posts! I had to tell you that your cold-brewed coffee post has let me to post about coffee on my blog.

One other thing: the ladies in my dinner group have all fallen head over heels for your blog. We want to invite you to dinner!

Please, oh please, tell me you’re at least flattered (if not interested), no matter how impractical the invitation may be. Here is an excerpt from one of the e-mails I traded with the dinner group ladies last week:

I swear, every time I read Smitten Kitchen’s blog I say to myself, ‘I think I have to marry her now.’ 🙂

I love the tone of her writing. I sit and grin as I read it. I love her recipes. Heck, I want to invite her to dinner!
