Roy and I

Hi! I’m Melissa and I’m married to Roy. He’s been in the Marine Corps for 16 years and we’ve been married for almost 12 of those. We have 6 beautiful children who we homeschool. We’ve just been transferred from Quantico, VA to Twentynine Palms, CA. This blog will be about our new life, our new church, our new friends, and our new neighbors! So many changes are occurring and we want to share about them.

Roy is from Idaho Falls, ID and joined the Marine Corps out of high school. This year marks 17 years in the Corps for him. He’s a Master Sergeant, his MOS (military occupation specialty) is Communications Chief, and he’s currently working at 3rd LAR BN. He’s also attending college part time getting a degree in speech/communication.

He isn’t sure what he’ll do after the Marine Corps but right now teaching is high on the list. He would really love to be a speaker/trainer/teacher that teaches others how to teach. He was an instructor for 3 1/2 years at Quantico and loved it!

In his off time (ha ha) he likes to play computer games, work with wood, and hang out with the kids.

  2. Hi there. I didnt know where to email or post but I went to google to look up 29 palms base housing since my husband and I are leaving Lejuene in two weeks to come out there to 29 and found this blog through my search and thought well…since I stumbled across this Marine wife I oughta make some communication and touch base so I can have a friend out there before I get there.

My email addy is purity4grace @yahoo.com

My name is Melissa by the way. My husband and our three children are going to be stationed out there at 29 Palms here shortly. While my hubby works I stay home and am a full time college student/WAHM. Or you can add the SAHM part in there with all the criteria.

I seen you homeschool. At the moment that is what I am doing with our children since we are getting ready to leave things and schedules have been hetic and I’ve been trying to keep the young ones on track with their learning until we get settled out in 29 palms here in a few weeks. I think that’s great that you homeschool your small circus over there!!

Hopefully we can touch base with one another soon. You have my email address so feel free to email me anytime. Maybe we can get together and let the children play while the husband’s work and you can point me in the right direction where I can find all the recreation and fun stuff out there. My husband loves 29 palms. He went to school out there after Boot. But maybe you could give me some pointers and show me around and tell me where I can get info on youth sports and what not out there for our children.

Take care and hope to hear something from you soon.

  3. I am looking up information about 29 Palms housing. I am from Southern California, and we lived at Camp Pendelton…anyways, we are in Maryland now, and my husband just got web orders for 29 Palms. I am so happy to be coming home. My husband is an E-4 ( should be picking up E-5 in a couple months), and we have two kids. Can you tell me a little about the housing and area? I can tell you about Quantico! Thank you!

    Angela

  4. I thought that you said you were going to Quantico! Hope to hear from you!

I’m excited now and i’ll send the link from your site to my hubby who is currently deployed. So this way he can see what the houses are gonna look like before i can actually send him pics from OUR house, lol.
Oh and do you mind, I have a friend who started a facebook site about military housing, it would be great if she can use some of your pics or a link to your website!
Thanks again and take care (maybe we see us around housing sometimes, lol)

    • Hi Sandi, Welcome to the Marine Corps life! It’s a good one. :) If you’re just setting up house for the first time, then you’ll need the basics for a home. The houses here are unfurnished. The kitchen does come with a fridge and stove, but there are no washers or dryers. Where you live depends on your husband’s rank at the time he checks in. Melissa
