Finish Rich – Step One

I’m not going to copy straight from the book..or even cover everything that he has us do. But I’ll just give an overview of what’s going on.

IN the introduction he discusses a bit about what you know about money, what you would change if you could, what your #1 goal is for the year (ours is to pay off debt).

Step One
Start the Journey to Living and Finishing Rich: Know Where You Come From

In this chapter, he has pinpoint the things we know and don’t know about our finances. This covers all areas, including insurance, retirement, investments, savings, credit records, etc. We took a test called the FinishRich Financial Knowledge Quiz. I failed miserably. The questions (all true or false) are very specific. Here is a sampling:

I know what percentage of my income I am saving.

I know how much money I will be getting from Social Security when I retire and what my pension benefits will be.

I know the current value of my home, the size of my mortgage, the interest raete on the mortgage, and how much equity I have in my home.

And then really in depth hard ones about retirement and investments!

It also discusses what we learned from our parents, what we’re using and not using, what works and doesn’t work.

There is also a section where we had to write down what our money values are. How do we think about money? This gets us thinking for the future chapters where we start to pinpoint goals for the future.

Step One wasn’t too hard. Mostly just answering questions. The nitty gritty is yet to come!
